No matter the date you apply to register to vote, Secretary of State will forward your voter registration application to the Illinois State Board of Elections. However, if you apply to register to vote, in person, within 16 days of an election or by mail, within 28 days of an election, your local election authority will not be able to process your registration prior to the election and you will not be eligible to vote in that election.
